This season’s FA Cup continues to offer excitement for a number of Midland Football League sides. Again, it was an MFL team taking all the plaudits in the first qualifying round with Hinckley AFC taking the scalp of a side some 62 places higher than them in the non league pyramid. This also means that Hinckley are now the lowest ranked side left in the competition ahead of their 2nd qualifying round tie against Chasetown. The second qualifying round is new ground for both Dunkirk and Sporting Khalsa – a great achievement in itself but they will be hoping to make progress when they face Stourbridge and Basford United respectively on September 26th. There is the possibility of a Worcestershire derby should Stourport Swifts get past Holbeach United in their replay – a tasty prospect and one which will generate significant interest locally. This ongoing success for Midland Football League sides does reflect well on the league and hopefully, it can persuade more people to give the MFL a go. Each scalp taken adds to the general interest and the nearer we get to the First Round proper, the more publicity this generates. The forthcoming Non League Day on October 10th is an opportunity for the League and individual clubs to generate additional support and encourage football supporters to sample the tremendous entertainment available in all of our Divisions. Watch this space for exciting news about Non League Day as we approach October 10th.
