DARLASTON Town 1874 are mourning the loss of Leon Taylor at the age of 36.
Taylor was taken ill yesterday (Wednesday) night at the JW Hunt Cup game with Dudley Town before the club announced his passing this morning. Darlaston manager Dean Gill said: "Our love and support are with Leon’s family, friends, and team-mates. "In due course as a club, we will pay our respects to Leon in the way he deserves." Forward Taylor (pictured below) had also played for Walsall Wood, Wednesfield, Tividale and AFC Wulfrunians. Current Walsall Wood boss Harry Harris said: "I spoke to him every day – he was one of my best mates. "He was just a great lad – I had so many good times with him. No-one ever had anything bad to say about him and he wouldn’t ever say anything bad about anyone else." Darlaston's next two games - with Shawbury on Saturday and Ashby Ivanhoe on Saturday December 4 have been postponed as a mark of respect. Everyone at the Midland Football League also sends their deepest condolences to Leon's family and all at DarlastonTown FC. LICHFIELD City's unbeaten run of 13 games was ended last night (Tuesday) when they lost 2-1 at AFC Wulfrunians.
Jamie Meddows gave the home side the league just before the break before Dominic Dell added the second on 57 minutes. A Dan Lomas penalty proved the consolation for Lichfield, who remain second. Boldmere St Michaels went within one point of Lichfield with a 3-0 win over Uttoxeter Town. Harry Craven , Stephen Palmer and Nial Rooney two minutes from time were on target for the Mikes. Cup action saw Lye Town go through in the JW Hunt Cup, 4-3 against Warstone Wanderers after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Adam Meacham got Lye's goal. Wednesfield beat Chelmsley Town 3-1 in the Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup. Tonight (Wednesday) sees one fixture, an all first division clash in the JW Hunt Cup between Darlaston Town 1874 and Dudley Town at Bentley Pavillion (7.45pm). |
