PROMOTED sides enjoyed the perfect start to life in the Capelli Sport MFL Premier with Sutton United kicking off with a 2-1 win at Sporting Khalsa.
Promoted through the MFL Division One play-offs, Neil Tooth's men went in front through Jayden Hunter's slotted finish four minutes into the second half. The visitors had to hang tough at times but Lewis Hayden sealed the deal two minutes from time, despite Mikkel Hirst getting one back three minutes past the 90. Runcorn Town also got off to a flyer, fighting back from behind to beat Lye Town 4-2. Alfie Stewart notched early for the visitors but Connor Spiers, Charlie Harland and Jamie Apperley weighed in during a flurry late in the first half. Sam Flower got the fourth shortly after the restart with Steward's second proving a consolation. Lucas Berry grabbed a hat-trick as Stockport Georgians romped to a 4-1 win at Tividale. Tivi had cancelled out Berry's slotted opener but had no response to his further efforts that sandwiched Harry Lambert's third for Georgians. Late goals from Ste Jenyons and Mykah Skervin fired last season's play-off semi-finalists Winsford United to a 2-0 win over Dudley Town, while Cheadle Town fought back from behind and withstood late pressure to win 2-1 at Brocton. The Badgers led through Christian Blanchette's spectacular cross-shot via the post but Sam Adegoke put away the leveller late in the first half with Josh Fowles stroking in the winner with 12 minutes to go. Uttoxeter Town defied last season's struggles with an impressive 2-0 win at Wythenshawe Town, Jake Avery and Rob Thorley netting five minutes apart midway through the first half. Aaron Bott ensured Abbey Hulton United opened with maximum points, his header from a Kal Boyle corner six minutes before half-time settling a tight and nervy 1-0 win over newcomers West Didsbury & Chorlton. Ollie Holden and Alex Hughes notched in quick succession as Whitchurch Alport secured a 2-0 win at AFC Wolverhampton City. Holden got the first on the rebound after Hughes's 66th-minute effort had been saved by Sam Arnold. Hughes then applied a composed finish to a lofted ball forward to wrap up the points six minutes later. Mitch Glover and Jack Tomlinson put Stone Old Alleynians in command by half-time in a 2-0 win at relegated Darlaston Town. Last season's beaten play-off finalists Northwich Victoria could not make pressure count in a competitive 0-0 draw with Romulus, Harvey Whyte almost breaking the deadlock in spectacular style only to see his 35-yard effort hit the bar 17 minutes from the end.
