NORTHFIELD Town proved good things come to those who wait by opening with an emphatic 4-0 over Kirby Muxloe.
Saturday's Capelli Sport MFL Division One bow was Town's first appearance in non-league's sixth tier for 22 years and came after back-to-back Division Two titles having been ineligible for promotion in 2025. Goals from Romano Graham, Dan Wootten (2) and Charlie Green ensured the occasion was memorable for all the right reasons. Anstey Town did not enjoy such a warm welcome, defeated 5-0 by last season's play-off semi-finalists Birmingham OJM at Beaumont Park. Dan O'Sullivan and Mohammed Sulliman struck before half-time with Kai Del Kiffin, Sulliman and Shaq McDonald on target in the second half. Fellow newcomers Bustleholme were consigned to a 2-1 defeat at Birstall United with Aidan Neil on target at either end of the second half. Callum Lawton got one back in the third minute of added time. FCV Grace Dieu came back from behind to register a 5-1 win at Saffron Dynamo. Jayden Haines gave Dynamo a third-minute lead but Alis Hallaci quickly levelled with a Sean Tomlinson hat-trick and Ernest Osaretin's goal with his first touch midway through the second half signalling laterally-transferred FCV's intent. Daniel Hadley got last season's runners-up Gornal Athletic off and running with the 32nd-minute decider in a 1-0 win at Stapenhill. The Peacocks also had a penalty saved early in the second half. Ross Clarke and Luke Francis netted inside the opening 15 minutes as Chelmsley Town bagged a 2-0 win over Coalville Town, while Boldmere Rangers - known as Smethwick Rangers last season - beat Holwell Sports 2-0 with Lucas Edwards scoring on the stroke of half-time and Mattaeus Morgan putting away the penalty he was fouled for in 63rd minute. AFC North Kilworth drew 1-1 with Ingles. Henry Golding had volleyed the hosts ahead nine minutes from time only for Courtney Brown to level five minutes later. Taylor Blyth, Brady Middleton, Josh Thompson and Alex Webb ensured Lutterworth Athletic cruised to a 4-0 win at 10-man Cradley Town, GNG Oadby Town got held to a 1-1 draw by Coventry Copsewood with Zak Adams seeing his early goal cancelled out by George Steele, while Leicester St Andrew's trumped Heather St John's 2-1. Ben Andrews was on target for the visitors. |
